Does God Fight for Himself?

Some years ago, I had an unforgettable experience that deeply impressed upon my heart the reality and power of God. In today's digital age, social media has become a platform where people often speak carelessly, even irreverently, about God's servants. I’ve seen many posts where individuals mock or attack men and women of God. Often, they question or ridicule the Scripture that says, "Touch not my anointed, and do my prophets no harm” (Psalm 105:15, KJV).

This raises a vital question: Does God truly fight for His children? Does He defend His own cause? I believe He does—passionately and powerfully.

Allow me to share my story.

We were preparing for a major crusade in the Ungwan Sauri community in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Publicity materials such as posters and handbills had been distributed widely. The air was charged with anticipation. On one of those evenings, I went out for follow-up to encourage the community to attend the program.

As I moved from place to place, a woman called out to me: “Man of God, indeed you are truly called by God.” Her tone carried sincerity and awe. Curious, I asked, “Why do you say that?”

She told me about an incident that had occurred the previous day. A middle-aged man had stopped outside her shop, stared at our poster on the wall, and without warning, began to tear it down. She confronted him, asking why he was removing it. He claimed the poster was covering a phone number he wanted to copy—an excuse she knew was false.

Despite her protests, he pulled down the poster and left. But shortly afterward, she saw the same man running back toward her shop, barefoot and visibly distressed. He frantically asked if she had seen any money. “All the money in my pocket has vanished!” he cried. He believed he had been spiritually robbed.

He wasn’t robbed—he had encountered divine discipline.

The Bible says in Galatians 6:7, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”When someone rises against the work or the messenger of God, they are not merely attacking a person—they are resisting the One who sent them. And God does not remain silent when His purpose is opposed.

Exodus 14:14 says, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” This isn’t just poetic encouragement—it is a divine reality. God fights for His people, not because they are flawless, but because they carry His name, His message, and His anointing.

Isaiah 54:17 reinforces this: “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord…”

We must be careful how we treat what God has consecrated. The hands of men may seem ordinary, but when those hands carry out God’s work, they become sacred instruments. When you mock a genuine servant of God, you risk contending with the very presence of God they carry.

As I often tell people: you can slap me or insult me—I’m just a man. But be cautious, because you may unknowingly provoke the God who dwells in me.

Let us be reminded of the words of Acts 5:38-39, where Gamaliel warns the council about persecuting the apostles: “…if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!”

May we have reverence for the things of God and humility in how we speak and act toward His servants.
